Executive Summary

SharePoint has achieved great success, but as organizations shine a bright spotlight on it they also reveal some of its nasty little challenges. Building it, running it, and even licensing it can be an ordeal. But the fact remains that it's a key platform for many organizations, and IT is charged with making sure it adheres to both business and technical requirements. Moving content into it, administering and auditing its use, protecting it, and making it available to a global audience are some of the biggest challenges. Infrastructure and operations executives should look within their existing vendor ecosystem to see if they can do anything to help solve these challenges — but be open to new vendors if their requirements aren't met. But don't limit taming SharePoint to just technology solutions; implement strong governance and organizational changes as well.
