Today, few enterprises integrate unified communications (UC) functions with mobile applications because most companies do not yet understand the value proposition of mobile UC integration. We believe that UC integration into mobile line-of-business (LOB) applications in industries like transportation and healthcare will be an evolutionary process occurring over three phases, throughout which strategists at UC vendors, software vendors, application developers, and mobile operators will have to address a variety of marketing and technology integration issues. To facilitate the integration process, UC vendors must incorporate application programming interfaces (APIs) into their products, and participants in the mobile UC ecosystem must develop clear return on investment (ROI) justification to help enterprises validate the investment required for these integrated mobile UC solutions.
