Global energy group BP has granted T-Systems a landmark contract to provide telecommunications services on a worldwide basis. The new five-year contract, which has an estimated value of $450 million, makes T-Systems BP's global information and communications technology (ICT) integrator for multisourced networks and next-generation telecom services. BP's business units will be able to choose the communications services that align with their specific needs and cost base. T-Systems will be tasked with managing the transformation of BP's wide-area network (WAN) for convergence, including substantially reducing the number of suppliers and lowering operational costs, while ensuring end-to-end service quality. Under a parallel agreement, Siemens Enterprise Communications will provide BP fully managed voice and audio-visual services. MNCs that want to multisource telecom services to reduce risk and also save money should look closely at BP's telecom services sourcing model for multivendor integration outsourcing.
